BMW 2002 Tires Explained (This video was made before the release of the 165R13 PIRELLI
CINTURATO CN36)
BMW 2002 Tires
BMW 2002, BMW 2002 Cabriolet, BMW 2002 Saloon, BMW 2002ti Saloon, BMW 2002tii, and BMW 2002 Turbo are all ideal candidates for 165R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 classic tires. The CN36 is perfect for the top of the range sporting models of the day, with its rounded shoulders that allow for progressive handling in period performance cars. A modern tire with squarer shoulders would negatively impact the handling of the 2002 and make the steering unnecessarily heavy.
185/70 R13 tires were used on BMW 2002 ti, 2002 tii, and 2002 Turbo vehicles. In the era, Alpina installed 185/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 tires, which we would recommend as the ideal low profile tire for a 2002ti. The lower profile tire option can fit the wheel arches of every 2002 model, so if you are set on a lower profiled tire then the 185/70 VR 13 CN36 is your ideal tire.
Michelin Innertubes
Longstone is well-versed in innertubes. We know what innertubes are the most appropriate based on our own experience selling tubes and hearing from customers, and driving classic and vintage automobiles on track, road, and hill. With the exception of a few special tubes and tire sizes, Michelin innertubes have always been our first option, providing the finest performance and longest lifespan at a reasonable price.
According to our Innertube data, certain 2002 models were introduced with tubeless wheels and tires, while others were not. See the fitment guides below to find your year and model. You might still use innertubes on tubeless wheels if you have tube-type tires, or are if your rims are damaged and no longer airtight. A Michelin 13D innertube is appropriate for 165R13 tires in this size, and a Michelin 13E is an ideal innertube for 185/70 R13 tires.

BMW 2002 History
BMW's head of product planning, Helmut Werner Bönsch, and Alex von Falkenhausen, the developer behind the M10 engine, each had a 2-litre engine installed in a 1602 for their own usage. When they realised they'd both made the same alteration to their vehicles, they wrote a joint proposal to BMW's board of directors to build a two-litre version of the 1602.
Simultaneously, American importer Max Hoffman requested that BMW create a sportier version of the 1602 series for sale in the United States. As a result, the 2002 was born, with multiple successful variants following in the 2002ti and Tii. Hans Stuck won the Nurburgring 24-hour race driving a 2002ti in 1970, and other 2002 Ti's were also winning hill climbs and rallies at the time, resulting in a successful racing career.
The 2.0 engine was available in two tunes: the standard single-carburettor 2002, which produced 99 horsepower, and the dual-carburettor high compression 2002, which produced 118 horsepower. In 1969, the 2002 Automatic with the basic engine and a three-speed automatic transmission became available. The Baur cabriolet was upgraded from a 1.6 L engine to a 2.0 L engine in 1971, becoming the 2002 TopCabriolet, a cabrio coach with a big roll bar and fixed window frames that was available until 1975.
Baur also introduced a TopCabriolet variant of the following 3-series in 1978. At the time, the Touring version of the 02 Series was available with all engine capacities, including the 2002 Tii as a substitute for the 2002 Ti. The fuel-injected 128 horsepower engine from the 2000 Tii was utilised in the 2002 Tii, resulting in a top speed of 115 mph.

BMW E10 2002 Tii
At the 1973 Frankfurt Motor Show, the 2002 turbo (E20) was introduced. This was Europe's and BMW's first production turbocharged vehicle. It developed 168 horsepower @ 5,800 rpm and 240 Newton-meters of torque. The automobile had a max speed of 131 miles per hour. The engine for the 2002 Turbo was the 2002 Tii with a twin-scroll turbocharger.
The steel body had a redesigned front-panel with added air-intake holes, as well as cut-back front and rear wheel arches to accommodate bigger wheels. These body modifications include fibreglass wheel arch extensions and a front air dam that are fastened to the body, as well as a rubber rear spoiler on the trunk lid.
