Citroen CX Tires

Citroen originally equipped the CX with 185R14 Michelin XVS tires. Certain versions also had a 175R14 Michelin XVS rear tire, which was a Citroen craze at the time on automobiles like the DS and CX.

Nowadays, the 185 HR 14 Michelin MXV-P tire is ideal for these vehicles. It is of sufficient quality for all of these tires, and there is no performance advantage to having the smaller tires on the rear. Installing the 185 HR 14 Michelin MXV-P front and rear also eliminates any issues that may have arisen from using the incorrect sized spare.

The Citroen CX was fitted with 195/70VR14 MXV tires in the mid-1980s (about 1985). (or MXL on the lower specification models). We recommend the 195/70R14 Pirelli Cinturato CN36 (once it is available). The 185 HR 14 Michelin MXV-P has an equally good carcase construction and remains the ideal tire for these latter 1980s Citroen CX automobiles with 14" wheels. The 185 R 14 Michelin MXV Whitewall is a white wall option that does not sacrifice tire performance.

The Michelin 14F Innertube is the best Citroen CX innertube for these tires. Our period fitment guides suggest that all models were released on tubeless wheels. If you have the original tubeless wheels in good condition, and your tires are tubeless (all our recommended tires are tubeless), then you do not need innertubes.

Citroen CX GTi and CX25 Tires

Later Citroen CX models adopted the new Michelin TRX tires, many Citroen CX GTi and CX25 versions were outfitted with the 190/65 HR 390 Michelin TRX tires.

The Citroen CX 25 GTi Turbo, on the other hand, was outfitted with 210/55 VR 390 Michelin TRX tires.

Tires with a profile below 70% (e.g 210/55 VR 390 Michelin TRX) must not fit innertubes.

Citroen CX Models

The Citroen CX was produced from 1974 to 1991, and during its production period, several different models were introduced. Some of the main Citroen CX models include:

History of the Citroen CX

The Citroen CX was a mid-size executive car produced by the French car manufacturer Citroen between 1974 and 1991. It was designed to replace the popular Citroen DS and was based on a new platform with a modern and aerodynamic design. During its 16-year production run, Citroen sold approximately 1.2 million CXs, making it one of the most successful cars in the company's history.

The CX was known for its distinctive styling, which was inspired by the earlier DS model. Its sleek, aerodynamic shape was designed to reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency, and the car's name "CX" stood for "Coefficient of drag." The car was also notable for its advanced suspension system, which used hydropneumatic technology to provide a smooth and comfortable ride.

When the CX was first introduced in 1974, it was available in several different variants. The base model was a four-door saloon, which was later joined by a five-door estate, known as the Safari. The Safari was a practical and spacious car that was popular with families and became one of the most successful versions of the CX.

Another notable variant of the CX was the Prestige, which featured an extended wheelbase to provide more legroom for rear passengers. The Prestige was aimed at the executive market and was a popular choice for limousine services. There was also a sportier version of the CX, the GTi, which featured a more powerful engine and improved performance. In 1975, the CX was named "European Car of the Year," and it received critical acclaim for its advanced technology and innovative design. The car's suspension system was particularly noteworthy, as it provided a level of comfort and stability that was unmatched by other cars of the time.

Over the years, the CX underwent several updates and revisions. In 1985, Citroen introduced a facelifted version of the CX, which featured updated styling and improved performance. The facelift also introduced a new model, the CX Series 2, which featured updated interior and exterior styling, as well as a new range of engines.

In terms of performance, the CX was available with a range of engines, including four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, as well as six-cylinder petrol engines. The most powerful engine was a 2.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine, which produced 120 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. This engine was available on the CX GTi Turbo, which was introduced in 1985 and was capable of reaching a top speed of 129 mph.

Overall, the Citroen CX was a significant car in the history of the Citroen brand. It represented a new era of modern and efficient cars that built on the innovative technology of the earlier DS model. The CX was praised for its advanced suspension system, aerodynamic design, and spacious and practical interior. Today, the CX remains a beloved classic car, and its unique style and innovative technology continue to attract enthusiasts and collectors around the world.
