185R15 Michelin XAS tires were initially fitted to the earlier and more numerous automobiles, the 1967-1969 Fiat Dino 2000 coupe and spider. Longstone Tires now recommends the 185 HR 14 Michelin MXV-P for a Dino 2000. The carcass of these Michelin tires is responsible for the precise and consistent handling of automobiles like the Dino.

The 205/70R14 tires that were supplied to the later 2400 Dino may be fitted on the older Fiat 2000 vehicle as well as the Dino 2000 Spider and Coupes. Many Fiat Dino owners believe the 185 improves the handling of the lighter car (alloy block versus iron block).

However, if you do wish to upgrade to the 205/70R14 tyre size, we suggest installing the Fiat-recommended 205/70 WR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36, which will mitigate the negative impacts of using a bigger tire.

These historic tires were designed to be suited to a car like this while still providing progressive handling, while a more current tyre will be designed to fit a completely different type of automobile.

The Dino was introduced on tube-type wheels and continued to fit them throughout its manufacture, therefore innertubes will be necessary on the original wheels even if you have tubeless tires.

The Michelin 14F innertube is the perfect tube for these tires.

2400 Fiat Dino Tires

Fiat introduced the redesigned Dino 2400 in October 1969, and it was manufactured until 1973. The larger engine capacity boosted low-down torque, which improved the Dino's performance in traffic.

In 1968, low profile tires were developed, and PIRELLI launched the CINTURATO CN36, thus the new 2400 Dino made use of this new technology, and installed 205/70R14 PIRELLI CINTURATO, which we believe would still be ideal tires for the later 2400 Dino. There is also the 205/70VR14 Michelin XWX tyre that was fitted to the Ferrari Dino, which is also well suited, and a great option today.

History of the Fiat Dino

The Fiat Dino made its premiere at the Turin Motor Show in October 1966 as a 2-seater Spider, followed by a 2+2 Coupé version with a 270 mm larger chassis at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1967. The two bodies had quite distinct lines since they were designed and built for Fiat by two separate coachbuilders: the Spider by Pininfarina and the Coupé by Bertone, where Giorgetto Giugiaro headed the design.

The Spider's interior was somewhat lacking when compared to that of the Coupé. The dashboard was vinyl-wrapped, the steering wheel was metal-spoke with a plastic rim, and the inside switchgear was taken from previous Fiat models. After a few months, the issue was resolved, and Spiders manufactured after February 1967 had a wood-rimmed steering wheel as well as wooden trim on the dash, similar to the Coupé model. Optional features for both versions were radios, metallic paint, leather upholstery, and a vinyl-covered roof with roll-bar type stainless steel trim.

The Dino was available with an all-aluminium DOHC 2.0 L V6 engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox. The same 2.0-litre engine was utilised in Ferrari's mid-engined Dino 206 GT, which went on sale in 1968 after being pre-production at the 1967 Turin Motor Show.

Fiat Dino Borrani Wheels

The Fiat Dino can be fitted with wire wheels, and Longstone has links to the best in the business. Borrani outperforms all other wire wheel manufacturers in numerous respects. Ruote Borrani Milano is a major supplier of wire wheels to several other well-known automakers, including Ferrari and Maserati. Borrani wheels are are manufactured in Italy to the highest standards and weigh approximately 25% less than steel wire wheels as the rims are made of aluminium. There is, in our opinion, no better way to enhance the looks of your Fiat Dino than with a set of iconic Borrani wire wheels.
