Ford Capri Tires
1973 Ford Capri
Longstone can gladly offer superb tires for the whole Ford Capri family, including the Ford Consul Capri, Ford Capri MKII, and Ford Capri 3000. The most natural tire for the Capri would be PIRELLI's CINTURATO CN36, since many of the high-end Capris of the day came standard with CN36. The Pirelli Cinturato CN36 tires were fitted to numerous top Ford vehicles, including the Escort RS and Mexico, as well as top Capri variants such as the 3.0 Ghia, GLX, and RS3100.
The stock Ford Capri came with 165-13 tires. The 165R13 Pirelli Cinturato CN36 is our recommendation for a Ford Capri MK I & II, and the best fitting innertube, if needed, is the Michelin 13D innertube. Longstone suggests fitting the 185/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO TM CN36 tires for a Ford Capri as a low profile alternative. We recommend 185/70 VR 13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 tires as the finest and original tires for numerous Ford Capri models.
2.8 injection, 280 Brooklands and 2.8 Turbo Capri tires
1973 Ford Capri
The 2.8i injection version of the 2.8 V6 Capri came equipped with 205/60R13 tires, in this size we can offer the 205/60 R 13 Vredestein. The late 280 Brooklands Capri came standard with 15-inch wheels and 195/50R15 Pirelli P7 tires. The 195/50R15 P7 is presently unavailable, thus we recommend the 205/50 VR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7, which has many satisfied customers. From July 1981 to September 1982, a limited number of 2.8 Turbo Capris with 4 spoke RS wheels 7.5X13 and 235/60R13 Pirelli P7 tires were made.
Ford Capri Innertubes
1983 Ford Capri S Coupe
Our period fitment guides suggest that the Ford Capri was fitted with tubeless wheels from as early as 1972. It is possible that pre 72 models may have fitted tube-type wheels, we do not have the fitment data to confirm this but they were likely also tubeless. Innertubes may still be advantageous if you think your wheel rims aren't in good condition, if the wheel is no longer airtight then innertubes would be a benefit. The ideal tube for 165 - 13 tires is the Michelin 13D, and the correct tube for 185/70R13 tires is the Michelin 13E.

History of the Ford Capri
Ford Capri Advert Poster
The Ford Capri was released in Europe in 1969 as Ford's effort to recreate the popularity of the Ford Mustang in Europe with a comparable type of automobile. The name Capri is derived from the Italian island, and this was Ford's second usage of the moniker, the prior model being the Ford Consul Capri. It was also intended to be dubbed the Ford Colt, but Ford was unable to do so owing to Mitsubishi's claim on the term Colt. The running gear under the new body was remarkably identical to that of the 1966 Cortina. A live axle was used in the rear suspension, which was supported by leaf springs and small radius rods. Front MacPherson struts were used in conjunction with rack and pinion steering (derived from the Ford Escort), which used a collapsible steering column in the event of a collision.

While Ford advertised the Capri as "The Car You Always Promised Yourself," the British publication 'Car' characterised it as a "Cortina in drag." Despite being a fastback coupé, Ford intended the Capri Mk I to be accessible to a wide range of potential purchasers. It was offered with a variety of engines to aid in this goal. Different line-ups were made by the British and German companies. The Ford Taunus V4 engine was used in 1.3, 1.5, and 1.7 L displacements in the continental variant, whereas the Ford Kent straight-four engine was used in 1.3 and 1.6 L displacements in the British version.
The early range-toppers were the British produced) Ford Essex V4 engine 2.0 L and the German built Cologne V6 2.0 L. At the end of the year, two additional sports versions were introduced: the 2300 GT in Germany, which used a double-barrel carburettor, and the 3000 GT in the United Kingdom, which used the Essex V6, which produced 138 horsepower. Ford chose to refresh the MK I with a makeover in 1972 after selling 400,000 Capris by 1970. However, the oil crisis occurred in 1973, and after selling 1.2 million automobiles, Ford decided to modify the car again to match the changing market, and so the MK II was born. The MK II had a shorter hood but a larger overall body and cabin, as well as a hatchback rear door. The Capri was a huge success for Ford, selling approximately 1.9 million cars throughout its lifetime.
