Below is a summarized chart of recommended tire pressures for Longstone tires, based on our significant experience in the retail, installation, and use of classic tires. We also consulted original tire installation manuals from Michelin and Pirelli to create this chart.

If you would like to access genuine tire installation manuals from tire manufacturers of that time period, please refer to our assortment of Tire Fitment Guides.

1972-1977 Ford Granada MKI Tires

During the period from 1972 to 1977, the standard wheel size for the 2-liter and 2.5-liter mk1 Granada models was 5.5" with 175-14 tires. For this specific size, we recommend the 175 HR 14 Michelin XAS. The Michelin XAS was ground-breaking as it introduced the concept of an asymmetric tread pattern, considering the distinct functions performed by the shoulders, sidewalls, and various parts of the crown. This innovative design resulted in a tire that provided exceptional levels of grip, improved directional stability, and enhanced road-holding capabilities, especially when navigating bends.

185-14 tires with 6" wheels were an option on the smaller engined MK1 Granada vehicles from 1972 to 1977. The 3 Litre, Ghia, Estate and Coupe MK1 Granada fitted 185R14 tires as standard, in this size Longstone recommends the 185 HR 14 Michelin MXV-P.

The Michelin MXV, introduced in 1982, is a highly durable tire renowned for its exceptional directional stability. Building upon the technological advancements of the earlier XAS tire, the MXV represents Michelin's evolution in road performance tires during the early 80s.

On the other hand, the Michelin MXV-P places a strong emphasis on durability rather than speed. It incorporates advanced features, such as a raised curbing band designed to protect the tire's structure, hence the 'P' in MXV-P stands for protection. While the MXV-P has a lower speed rating compared to the MXV, it remains more than sufficient for the Granada, being speed rated as 'H,' allowing sustained speeds up to 130 mph.

The tires of the MK1 Ford Granada 3000 S were low profile 195/70-14 on 6" wheels. The 195/70VR14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 is our recommendation in this size. The PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36, introduced in 1968, offers excellent grip and handling with responsive steering and precise control. Its construction incorporates Pirelli's Cinturato technology for enhanced durability and stability. Porsche selected the CN36 for homologation on their 1970s sports cars due to its excellent performance. This tire is a favoured choice among classic car enthusiasts who value its grip, handling, and vintage appeal.

1977-1985 Ford Granada MKII Tires

The Mk2 Ford Granada (1977-1985) featured various tire options: 175R14 Michelin XAS on 5.5" rims, 185HR14 Michelin MXV-P, and 195/70R14 Cinturato CN36 for premium models. The 190/65 HR 390 Michelin TRX was installed to several top-end MK2 Granada cars from 1977 to 1985, including the Ford Granada 2.8i, GLS, Ghia, 2.8 Ghia X, and 2.8i S.

The Michelin TRX tire, introduced in the late 1970s, was specifically designed for high-performance vehicles. Its unique design, including a low-profile sidewall and wide tread, provided exceptional handling and stability. The TRX tire's carcass design facilitated an even distribution of tensions, resulting in improved grip, increased longevity, and reduced heat generation. Additionally, the lower profile of the TRX tire allowed for a wider footprint on the road, enhancing directional stability and minimizing sidewall flex.

Michelin TRX tires are specifically designed to be used with 390mm TRX wheels, as both the tires and wheels are constructed using metric units of measurement that do not correspond exactly to any imperial size. It is essential to note that TRX tires can only be used in conjunction with TRX wheels; they are not compatible with other wheel types.

1985-1995 Ford Granada MKIII Tires

Between 1985 and 1994, the third-generation Ford Granada was fitted with a range of tire sizes. In the early production years of the Mk3, most models, including the 3-litre Ghia, the coupe, the 2-litre estates, and the 2.0L, 2.1L diesel, and 2.3L saloons in L, X, LX, and GL trims, came standard with 185 R14 tires, which are full-profile classic tires.

For those Mk3 vehicles that originally came with the classic full-profile tires, the 195/70 VR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 presents an excellent low-profile alternative, offering an upgrade that aligns them more closely with the specifications of the higher-end models.

Although the 185 HR 14 Michelin MXV-P is a commendable tire, it has become somewhat outdated for the design requirements of the MK3 Granada. As the MKIII model years progressed, an increasing number of Granada versions transitioned to more contemporary tire options. The higher-end versions, such as the EFi, Ghia, Scorpio, as well as the 2.5 TD Ghia and Scorpio, were equipped with either 195/65R15 or 205/60-15 tires to cater to their upgraded specifications.

For the upgraded versions, including the high-end 2.9 Ghia, 2.9 EFi, 2.9 Ghia 4X4, and 2.9 Cosworth 24V Scorpio, we recommend installing the 205/60 WR 15 Michelin Pilot Primacy 3 tires for optimal performance. These tires are specifically suited to enhance the driving experience of these vehicles and provide superior grip and handling.

The Michelin Pilot Primacy 3 is an excellent addition to Michelin's Youngtimer series and is perfectly suited to the chassis of the MK3 1985-1994 Granada. While we highly recommend the 205/60 WR 15 Michelin Pilot Primacy 3, it is worth mentioning that if you prefer a 195/65 R 15 tire, the PIRELLI P6000 N is a compatible option.

Ford began to fit 19" wide wheels on the MKIII Granada near the end of manufacture. 205/50R16 tires were fitted to the 2.9i Scorpio 24V of 1991, the 2.9EFi Scorpio 24V of 1992, and the 2.9i Cosworth 24V Scorpio 24V Ghia of 1993.

Ford Granada Innertubes

Based on our classic car Innertube Guides, it is confirmed that all or the majority of Granada variations were originally equipped with tubeless wheels. As long as your wheels are the original equipment and in proper working condition, there is no need for innertubes. However, if you choose to install innertubes, we suggest using the Michelin 14E innertube for 175-14 tires, and the Michelin 14F innertube for 185-14 and 195/70-14 tires. In our experience, we recommend Michelin tubes whenever they are available, as we have found them to be of superior quality.

It is important to note that tires with a profile lower than 70%, such as the 190/65 HR 390 Michelin TRX, should not be used with innertubes.

Its timeless design, comfortable ride, and significant presence on European roads during its heyday have contributed to its enduring appeal.
