Peugeot 205 Tires
Several early models of the 1.0L base Peugeot 205 were initially fitted with 135 R13 tires, but due to the unavailability of classic tires in this size, an upgrade to 145 R13 tires is recommended for these models. This recommendation extends to the 1.0L and 1.1L variants, as well as the 1.8L XLD and GLD models, which were originally equipped with 145 R13 tires. For these specific models, the 145HR13 PIRELLI CINTURATO™ CA67 is highly recommended, as it stands out as the best option in this size, offering excellent performance and reliability.
This is also true for the early 205 1.4 GR cars, which were initially fitted with 145R13 tires. Given the limited availability of 145R13 tires and some owners' preference for a wider tire profile, there has been a trend among Peugeot 205 owners towards using 155 R13 tires. For those considering this size, the 155R13 PIRELLI CINTURATO CA67 is an exceptional choice, providing superior quality and performance for the vehicle, however, fitting the original tire size is recommended when possible.
Peugeot 205 1.4 and 1.6 Tires
The Peugeot 205 series, encompassing a range of models from the 1.4L and 1.6L Automatic to the 205 D Turbo, uniformly adopted the 165/70R13 tires across various versions. Specifically, from 1984 onwards, the 1.4L models, including the 205 (1.4) GR, as well as the SR and GT variants, were equipped with these 165/70R13 tires. This standard was maintained in the 1.4 XT, GT, and SR models starting in 1988, with the 1.4 GT model consistently using the same size from 1988 to 1992.
The trend continued with the 205 1.4 XT from 1991 to 1992 and the 205 1.4 CJ Cabrio between 1991 and 1993. Moreover, the 205 1.6 Automatic models, produced from 1987 to 1995, also featured the 165/70R13 tires. Unfortunately, due to the scarcity of high-quality classic tires in this size, an upgrade to 175/65 R13 tires is recommended. This size allows for the fitment of the highly regarded 175/65 TR 13 Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2.

Peugeot 205 1.8 Tires
Some of the 1.8L Peugeot 205 models, specifically the GLD, GRD, and XLD variants, were equipped with wider 5.00B wheels, accommodating either 155/70R13 or 165/70R13 tires. Given the current lack of classic tires in the 155/70R13 size, we suggest, for the time being, opting for modern tires if this specific size is required. Alternatively, we suggest moving to the 175/65 R13 tire size. This size not only fits well but also allows for the use of the highly praised 175/65 TR 13 Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2, known for its exceptional performance.
Peugeot 205 CTi and GTi Tires
The Peugeot 205 1.6L GTi, 1.6L CTi, and 1.9L CTi models, were originally fitted with 185/60 R 14 tires, typically choosing between the Pirelli P600 and Michelin MXV. However, for drivers of these models, we recommend the 185/60 VR 14 Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2. This tire is an ideal choice for both road and competition use, thanks to its rubber compound that is derived from competition specifications, offering exceptional grip on both straights and corners. As for the 1.9L GTi 205 model, it was equipped with 185/55 R 15 tires, and in this case, we suggest the 185/55 R 15 Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2. This tire is recommended for its outstanding performance and reliability, making it a top choice for drivers seeking the best possible driving experience with their Peugeot 205.
Peugeot 205 Rallye Tires
The Peugeot 205 Rallye was originally equipped with 165/70 R 13 tires. However, it is important to note that currently, there are no classic tire manufacturers producing this specific size. For owners of this model seeking suitable replacements, we recommend upgrading to the slightly larger 175/65 R13 tire size. In this size, the 175/65 TR 13 Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 stands out as an excellent choice.

Peugeot 205 Tire Pressure & Fitment Guides
Considering recent advancements in rubber technology, safety standards, and tire manufacturing techniques, it's possible that existing tire pressure recommendations might no longer be appropriate. Insights from our discussion with a specialist from Pirelli addressed these concerns:
"Our philosophy is to reproduce as closely as possible the original tire characteristics using new processes and materials thus to maintain the handling of the vehicle the same. This means, yes we maintain the original handbook pressures.”
