Porsche 924 Tires

Porsche 924 Tires Explained

The original Porsche 924 was equipped with 165-14 tires. We recommend 165 HR 14 Michelin XAS on 5.5J wheels, with 185/70 VR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 on optional 6J wheels. By the end of the 1970s, 924 models were generally equipped with 6"J wheels and the 185/70 VR 14 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 tires. The 924 was available with 185/70 WR 15 PIRELLI CINTURATO CN36 tires beginning in the late 1970s.

Post 1978 Porsche 924 Tires

From 1978 to 1985, certain Porsche 924s were equipped with 205/60R15 tires, for which we propose the 205/60 WR 15 Michelin Pilot Primacy 3. The early Porsche 924 Turbo, also known as the Porsche 931, was equipped with 185/70WR15 Pirelli Cinturato CN36 tires or 205/55YR16 PIRELLI CINTURATO P7 tires.

By the 1990s, the Porsche 924 Turbo, 924S, and 924 Sportspack may be equipped with 185/70-15, 195/65R15, or 205/55-16 tires (we prefer the PIRELLI CN36).

Porsche 924 Innertubes

According to our historical fitting instructions, the 924 was introduced with tubeless wheels, and fitted them throughout manufacture. If your rims are in good shape, you won't need innertubes on these wheels. Innertubes could still be a benefit when fitted on tubeless wheels if you are unsure if your rims are airtight.

Porsche 924 History

Audi constructed the Porsche 924 at Neckarsulm, Germany, on behalf of Porsche from 1976 until 1988. As the company's entry-level car, the 924, a two-door, two-plus-two coupé, replaced the 912E and 914.

Despite the fact that the 928 was designed earlier, the 924 was the first Porsche to use water cooling and a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive arrangement in production. It was also the first Porsche to use a traditional fully automatic transmission.

The 924 had its public premiere in November 1975, with a turbocharged model following in 1978. In response to rising competition, Porsche introduced the 944, an upgraded and re-engineered derivative that replaced the 924 in the US in 1983. In 1985, Audi discontinued the engine used in the 924, prompting Porsche to install a somewhat detuned 944 engine in the 924, rename it the 924S, and relaunch it in the United States. The 924 was a commercial success, with over 150,000 units manufactured.
