Triumph Stag Green
The original equipment tire size on the Triumph Stag was 185 R 14. The The 185 HR 14 Michelin MXV-P is the finest tire for a Triumph Stag manufactured before 1976. If you fit tubes the Michelin 14F innertube is the best option for these tires.
Triumph upgraded the standard fitment of the Stag to the 175HR14 Michelin XAS in 1976 to enhance the handling. This makes the 175HR14 the ideal tire for a Triumph Stag today. The correct innertube for tires of this size is a Michelin 14E.
We are aware that many people want a tire with a white band for this car, the 185 R 14 Michelin MXV Whitewall offers this whilst also offering the best performance. We can also offer a 195/75 R 14 Hankook Whitewall tire with a 3/4" white band, however this is a budget tire from the wrong era, that only offers mediocre performance, not for the discerning Stag owner.
In short, this is what Longstone suggests:
- 185 HR 14 Michelin MXV-P for a Triumph Stag (1970-1976).
- 175 HR 14 Michelin XAS for a Triumph Stag (Post-1976).

Triumph Stag Innertubes
Our Fitment and tire pressure guides below inform us that some Stag models were released on tube-type wheels; wheels that require innertubes to function. Fitment Guides as early as 1972 suggest that some models were released on tubeless wheels; wheels that do not require innertubes to function. The later the date of manufacture, the greater the chance that the wheels are tubeless.
One might still fit innertubes to tubeless wheels; perhaps if you fit tube-type tires, suffer a puncture, or you are not confident your rims are airtight, if in doubt fit a tube!
1977 Triumph Stag
Stag Triumph History
The Triumph Stag was a four-seater convertible luxury sports automobile produced between 1970 and 1977 with the intention of competing with the Mercedes-Benz SL. A B-pillar that was attached to the windscreen by a T-bar was installed to increase structural strength and to comply with the new American rollover regulations. However, the vehicle experienced mechanical unreliability, most notably overheating, for which the majority of owners completely rebuilt the engine; some even installed the Triumph 6-cylinder that the vehicle was intended for. There were just 25,877 models made before it ceased production.
